Meeting Sat Feb 14th

Below is a brief synopsis of the ideas presented on Saturday with the hopes that these incomplete and imperfect translation will inspire you to post more accurate and illustrative descriptions. Please feel free to correct or elaborate.

Tom talked about the idea of starting with a narrative and building around that, not so much a setting for a story as building an object/ model/building that had the narrative in someway embedded within it. He mentioned Douglas Darden as an inspiration for this approach

Tom and Monica are interested in using the back of the billboard that hangs over The Manual Archives as a projection surface.

Tom mentioned Monica's idea of growing microorganisms as a performance environment.-This lead to a discussion of an evolving mold environment in the store window(as a performance space) with projection of images from there onto the billboard.

Susan and Tom discussed shared interest in making 3-D topographical map of the area with tunnels. The tunnels being some kind of alternative reality to the world above.

Susan discussed an a narrative about Jim Kepner an obsessive collector, science fiction writer and early gay organizer in Silverlake. In the fictive narrative of his life he lives in science fiction reality and everyday world simultaneously. This connecting to the idea of tunnels and the underground-literally and figuratively.

Oliver mentioned an environment that housed an electro-magnetic pendulum as well as a love story in the ionosphere between elves and sprites as well as many other ideas

Yelena talked about the idea of creating a miniature museum that would be an actual curated exhibition space.

Katie talked about structures that are permeable to the exterior environment to the point that the state of interior and exterior are in constant flux. She is interested in desert environments and camoflage as well

Barbara and Janie met and discussed their project this weekend as well and reported back.
"We're leaning toward performing inside in front of the permanent set--we will have a mountain on a turntable, and small scenes inside the mountain (Griffith Park), moving back and forth in time in the history of the area, little scenes of a parallel world underground. There will also be a volcano. and a taco truck. and a dog. fact an fiction. and a portal out via the ennis house. that's all we know at this point."

tom and monica draw buildings

tom and monica are oller & pejic architecture- we draw a lot of buildings and parts of buildings and sometimes they get built. we don't have many good photographs or our projects, in some cases we have no photographs. apologies, we've been busy but we are working on it. here are some:

echo park bungalow overhaul
new house in yucca valley, ca
another new house in yucca valley, ca
options for joshua tree development (unbuilt)

our website is in progress and thus not too informative but it has our contact information. you can find it by clicking here

as for this project monica is looking toward micro-organisms, sky-hooks and snow-flakes. tom wants to take over the billboard in some manner (if only with shadows)! somehow we'll need to find a way to cover all that as a team...
